Uplands is a specialist Mental Health Hospital providing a high standard of care for people suffering with enduring mental illness and who require long term or slow stream rehabilitation. Uplands is neither a challenging behaviour unit nor a secure unit.

We are registered to provide accommodation for up to 30 adults between the ages of 18 and 65 including placement of those subject to a detention order under the Mental Health Act 1983.

Many of our clients have a long history of serious mental illness and have spent long periods of time in hospital care. Difficult to manage behaviour and aggression may often feature in the history and other placements outside of hospital are likely to have been tried and failed.

On referral whilst there may continue to be treatment resistive symptoms presenting, a good stability will have been achieved in mood and behaviour, which with specialist nursing, medical care and treatment it is anticipated will be sustainable.

In meeting all care needs the service is provided in a manner that upholds the principles of maintaining dignity, privacy and choice in a relaxed home-like environment.
